The World Science, Technology and Development Forum opens. The China Association for Science and Technology proposes initiatives to promote the healthy development of artificial intelligence.

On the evening of October 22, 2024, the World Forum on Science and Development, organized by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), kicked off in Beijing. The forum’s chairman and CAST president, Wan Gang, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting four key initiatives, including the continuous promotion of healthy development in artificial intelligence.

The theme of this year’s forum is “Science and Technology for the Future,” emphasizing the importance of building a community with a shared future for mankind. The forum aims to gather global wisdom to empower high-quality development and enhance international exchanges in science and technology and culture. Wan Gang’s initiatives also include deepening global cooperation in fundamental research, supporting innovation among young scientific talent, and strengthening open collaboration in global scientific governance.

In his address, Wan Gang called on all parties to embrace the spirit of shared responsibility, the philosophy of win-win cooperation, and an open and inclusive approach. He encouraged participants to share their insights, build consensus, and collectively contribute to sustainable development through scientific advancements and global solutions.

During the opening ceremony, He Junke, the executive vice chairman of the forum, who is also the vice president of CAST overseeing daily operations, led the remarks and announcements regarding the forum’s outcomes. Shi Yigong, CAST vice president and president of Westlake University, facilitated the keynote speech session, which featured six experts and representatives from international organizations.

After the ceremony, attendees visited the exhibition titled “Jiu Zhang Liu Hui – The Pioneer of Ancient Chinese Mathematical Theory, Liu Hui.”

The main activities of the 2024 World Forum on Science and Development in Beijing will continue until October 24, featuring six thematic conferences and three roundtable discussions, alongside several cultural exchange activities. Over 350 representatives from 33 countries and regions are participating, including 14 Nobel laureates, Turing Award winners, and Lasker Prize recipients, 27 leaders from international scientific organizations, 41 Chinese and foreign academicians, and more than 200 experts and scholars from renowned universities, research institutions, and enterprises.

The World Forum on Science and Development was initiated by CAST in 2019, playing a pivotal role in promoting civil scientific exchanges, expanding China’s international communication channels, and building a network of open and trusting cooperation.
