On October 19, the World Journal’s San Francisco branch will host the “2024 Senior Lifestyle Expo” at the Chinese American International School in the Bay Area. The event, scheduled from 10 AM to 5 PM, aims to provide local seniors with valuable information on financial management and health care. Attendees can expect dozens of booths featuring prominent speakers from the Bay Area who will address various issues seniors face in their daily lives. The first 100 guests will receive a complimentary World Journal shopping bag, and there will be several exciting prizes in a raffle for participants.
Ming-bin Li, the general manager of the World Journal’s San Francisco branch, emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting seniors. This year’s expo will showcase four key features designed to deliver a wealth of information to attendees. These include medical consultations, financial trustee lectures, recreational activities, and holistic wellness experiences. Many professional doctors will be on hand to offer free health screenings and answer any health-related questions seniors may have.
The schedule includes several well-known speakers from the Bay Area. Nicole Hung from Van Berg, a company highly praised by its clients, will lead the first session. This interactive Q&A will delve into common medical challenges faced by seniors, including transitioning from employer-sponsored group health insurance to Medicare as retirement approaches. Given that this falls during the annual Medicare enrollment period, the session will also outline significant changes for 2025, particularly relating to upcoming alterations in prescription drug plans, making it a must-attend for health-conscious individuals.
Furthermore, nutritionist Chih-chi Hsiao will address dietary concerns commonly faced by seniors. She will share strategies to lower blood pressure using the DASH diet and discuss ways to prevent or manage diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Hsiao will also provide insights on dietary modifications to prevent osteoporosis and improve sleep quality, along with nutritional advice to help stave off dementia.
Dr. Wen-Ting Chuang, a chiropractic specialist graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Neuroscience and Physiology, will also be featured. She studied chiropractic sciences at Palmer College and has served as a teaching assistant in anatomy and as an associate professor at Palmer West University. With over ten years of experience as the clinic director at Natural Health Pros, she is well-versed in addressing spinal issues in seniors.
Pei-ning Zhang, a manager at the Alzheimer’s Association, will present on “The Impact of Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia on Communities.” With over 6 million Americans diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and more than 11 million caregivers, she highlights this escalating health crisis that affects many in the community. Zhang will discuss the implications of these diseases, local resources available, and how everyone can contribute to combating Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
Finally, seasoned financial consultant Duanjian Lei will analyze “2025 Medicare Options.” Based in Milpitas, California, and with a career beginning at a CPA firm in Silicon Valley, he has extensive experience as a private banker and investment advisor at Citibank.
The closing session will feature gardening expert Qianlong Wang from Sunnyvale’s Farming Fun Club, who will present “Creating Your Happy Gardening Life: The First Patch.” As an engineer familiar with the ins and outs of backyard gardening, Wang will share valuable tips for planting fruits and vegetables. Attendees can also visit the Farming Fun booth to learn more and receive seedlings, cuttings, and seeds to enhance their gardening endeavors.
