Typhoon -Tami- approaches, sea-related activities in some scenic spots in Sanya, Hainan are closed
On October 26, 2023, Typhoon Tammei intensified into a full-fledged typhoon at noon and is steadily approaching Hainan Island. By 5 PM that day, the coastal tourist city of Sanya, located in southern Hainan, reported minimal impacts from the typhoon. However, to ensure the safety of visitors, some attractions and water-related activities have been temporarily closed.
The Sanya Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow typhoon warning at 4:49 PM on the same day, upgrading from a blue alert. Forecasts suggest that over the next 24 hours, wind speeds along the coast and inland areas of Sanya will gradually increase, with average winds reaching level 8 and gusts up to level 10, accompanied by heavy rainfall.
During the day, light rain sporadically fell in downtown Sanya. Despite the weather, many tourists were still seen on the beach in the popular Dadonghai tourist area, equipped with rain gear. To safeguard residents and tourists, measures were implemented to close ocean-related activities, and warning lines were set up near the beach to indicate that swimming is prohibited.
Additionally, ocean-related attractions such as Wuzhizhou Island and Xidao Ocean Culture Tourist Area have also ceased operations. Yachts, tour boats, and fishing vessels have returned to port to take shelter from the storm.
According to the Central Meteorological Observatory’s update, as of 4 PM on October 26, the center of Typhoon Tammei was located about 90 kilometers west of Yongxing Island in the Xisha Islands, precisely at 16.9 degrees north latitude and 111.5 degrees east longitude, with maximum winds near the center reaching level 12 (33 meters per second). The typhoon is expected to move westward at a speed of 15 to 20 kilometers per hour, with little change in intensity.
