Buy books, pick up porcelain, appreciate intangible cultural heritage, and go to Changsha Orange Island for a scholarly gathering

The third Yuelu Book Fair, themed “Mountains of Books · Reading Market,” is currently taking place on Orange Isle in Changsha, attracting a vibrant crowd with over a hundred booths, thousands of book titles, renowned author readings, musical performances, traditional cultural displays, and ceramic treasure hunts.

Visitors are feeling the excitement. Local resident He Li shared, “The biggest gain from coming here is discovering more books that are meaningful and valuable to me.”

More than 70 publishing houses from across the country have showcased over 15,000 different titles, totaling more than 100,000 books, with prominent discounts of up to 50%. Among the participating publishers, major players like People’s Literature Publishing House, Commercial Press, and Zhonghua Book Company have brought several hundred high-quality works. Additionally, the Central South Publishing and Media Group is showcasing 100 outstanding titles, including award-winning works such as “Rural National Issues,” “Forging Swords: A Chronicle of Innovation at the National University of Defense Technology,” and “Destiny.”

The Reading Market features eight special exhibition areas, creatively designed to reflect the unique styles of different publishers. For instance, Yuelu Publishing House has created an antique-themed booth that highlights traditional Chinese culture, while the innovative Central South Boji Tianj卷 displays a modern and stylish design. The Hunan Children’s Publishing House features exceptional children’s books like “The Story of the Clumsy Wolf” and has organized fun activities such as a stamp card system for young readers to enjoy together. Moreover, a collaboration between Xinhua Bookstore and Cha Yan Yue Se has produced creative cultural products such as book blind boxes, fans, and postcards.

Beyond the Reading Market itself, the event also includes literary performances, a heritage market, a coffee market, a ceramic picking market, and a floral arts market, aiming to blend diverse cultural elements and creative ideas, enriching the reader’s experience.

During the event, the literary scene will host ten authors and musicians, including Chen Guo, He Liwei, and He Chuhan, who will participate in eight exciting discussions. Additionally, six bands from five universities in Hunan will perform over six showcases. The heritage market will exhibit seven national and provincial-level intangible cultural heritage projects, while the “ceramic picking” market, focusing on Li Ling porcelain, offers visitors a unique and enjoyable experience.

Organized by Hunan Publishing Investment Holding Group and Central South Publishing and Media Group, with support from Hunan Xinhua Bookstore, the Reading Market will continue until October 13.
