Sino-Singapore Health丨The health management rate of elderly people over 65 years old in Ningxia reaches 78.69%

In a recent press conference held by the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region government, officials shared key initiatives aimed at promoting a positive view of aging and encouraging healthy aging among seniors. The conference focused on four special actions: oral health for the elderly, nutrition improvement, dementia prevention, and mental health support. Notably, the health management participation rate for seniors aged 65 and over has reached 78.69%.

According to the Ningxia Senior Work Committee, the region is gradually enhancing its elderly care system. This includes social security, medical insurance, and welfare programs designed to benefit the senior population. The government has invested a total of 4.645 million yuan into providing accident insurance for over 132,000 seniors across 80 institutions, achieving a 100% payout rate for pensions. Additionally, they are advancing the establishment of geriatric departments in secondary and higher-level hospitals, with more than 85% of medical facilities being senior-friendly.

The initiative “Smart Assistance for Seniors” continues to thrive, utilizing smart technology and various volunteer services to help older adults adapt to modern information technology and improve their quality of life. Furthermore, the “Learning for Seniors” platform has been developed, which includes the establishment of 31 senior universities in cities across Ningxia. The region has made significant progress in public cultural reforms, with community cultural service centers reaching a coverage rate of 98.9%. They were also the first in Northwest China to ensure that every administrative village has access to a farmers’ reading room, thereby enhancing community cultural services for the elderly.

Looking ahead, Ningxia plans to apply for an additional funding of 2.365 million yuan to support the establishment of 43 new “Saishang Happy Senior Universities.” This initiative aims to expand resources for elderly education and innovate teaching methods. The goal is to promote knowledge related to health and caregiving while actively exploring new models that combine education and care, integrating the concept of positive aging and healthy aging into every aspect of economic and social development.
