Chinese Medical Services Cancer Prevention and Support Program Annual Lecture_1

On Saturday, October 12th, the Chinese Medical Program will host its annual Cancer Prevention and Support Seminar and Interactive Event. This year, we’re excited to welcome Dr. Andrew M. Evens, DO, MSc, FACP, the Deputy Director of Clinical Services at the New Jersey Cancer Center and a specialist in hematologic cancers, who will present on “Targeted Therapy for Blood Cancers.”

Family physician Dr. Lin Weiru will address how to “Transform Worry into Strength,” helping patients and their families cope with the initial shock of a cancer diagnosis. We’re also privileged to have palliative care expert Luo Peishan share insights on “The Gifts of Palliative and Supportive Care.” Additionally, our knowledgeable Medicare representatives, including Chen Shaonan, will provide essential information about navigating health care services.

Participants will have the opportunity to relax and rejuvenate with Tai Chi, led by instructor Huang Gang. The event will also facilitate discussions among families, patients, social workers, and physicians, fostering a space for sharing resources and information.

Since its establishment in 2010, the RWJBarnabas Health – RWJBH Chinese Medical Program has dedicated 14 years to serving the healthcare needs of the Chinese community. In June 2023, the program launched its Cancer Health Support Initiative, hosting a series of informative webinars and discussions on breast, prostate, lung, and colorectal cancers. Located next to New Jersey’s only National Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick has been an essential service for many cancer patients. The program aims to promote timely medical visits, screenings, and a proactive approach to early prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer, alleviating the suffering associated with this disease.

Attendees at the annual cancer event can participate in group discussions, explore an array of health information booths, and converse with fellow patients and families about cancer prevention and treatment while sharing valuable resources and support. The event is open to the public and includes free parking and lunch, although seating is limited. Please register by contacting the Chinese Medical Program at 732-923-5057.
