National Energy Administration- Electric vehicle travel on highways reaches a new high during the National Day holiday

In a recent update, the National Energy Administration shared significant measures they’ve implemented to ensure reliable charging services for electric vehicles during major holidays. With the rising number of electric vehicle users anticipated during the recent “Golden Week,” the agency worked alongside various partners to enhance their monitoring through a dedicated information platform. This initiative saw the introduction of temporary charging stations, the deployment of additional staff for support, and thorough equipment inspections prior to the holiday to accommodate the needs of travelers.

A statistical analysis of 24,400 highway charging stations monitored by the national charging facility service platform highlighted remarkable figures for the holiday period from October 1 to October 7. During this timeframe, there were an impressive 3.1 million charging sessions, collectively generating about 72.15 million kilowatt-hours of energy. This averages out to roughly 10.31 million kilowatt-hours per day—2.4 times the typical daily volume we’ve seen this year. In comparison to the “May Day” holiday earlier this year, this marks a 34% increase, and when looking at the same period from last year, there’s an astonishing 80% increase, setting a new historical record.

To address these trends, local agencies have coordinated with businesses to enhance the availability of charging services, further boosting the capacity to support electric vehicle charging during peak holiday times. Looking ahead, the National Energy Administration plans to continue executing directives from the Central Committee and the State Council, collaborating with key stakeholders to focus on the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, ensuring that the charging needs of holiday travelers are effectively met.
