Special exhibition and seminar commemorating the 150th anniversary of Huang Xing’s birth were held in Shanghai

On October 27, 2023, a special exhibition and academic seminar were held in Shanghai to commemorate the 150th birthday of Huang Xing, a pioneering figure in China’s democratic revolution. Organized by the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang in collaboration with district organizations, these events aimed to honor Huang Xing’s remarkable contributions to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation while promoting his patriotic ideals and revolutionary spirit.

The exhibition, opened at Huang Xing’s former residence, was guided by the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Revolutionary Committee, with co-hosting by the Xuhui and Hongkou District Committees. Key figures at the opening included Xu Yisong, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress and Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Committee, along with other prominent leaders and Huang Xing’s grandson, Huang Liwen.

Featuring five sections, the exhibition displayed over a hundred historical photographs and 25 artifacts related to Huang Xing, providing a comprehensive overview of his revolutionary journey, historical achievements, and noble character. It will remain open until November 25.

Zhou Hao, Deputy Chairman of the Hongkou District Committee, emphasized the importance of inheriting the legacy of revolutionary leaders like Huang Xing. He stated that the focus should be on national rejuvenation, contributing to the journey of building a modern socialist country through new collaborations and contributions from multi-party cooperation.

Huang Xing’s granddaughter, Huang Jianheng, expressed hope that the patriotic thoughts and noble qualities embodied by her grandfather would continue to be passed down, helping to unify more people towards the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The “Huang Xing and Shanghai” academic seminar, co-hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Committee and the Shanghai Sun Yat-sen Society, featured experts discussing various topics, including Huang Xing’s unique position in Shanghai during his revolutionary career, his revolutionary thoughts and practices, his practical spirit of selflessness and commitment to the greater good, and advanced ideas like the rule of law, referencing documents from Japan.

Huang Liwen reflected on his grandfather’s aspirations for a strong and prosperous China, stating that those dreams have been realized today as China grows wealthier and stronger. He pledged that, as descendants, they would be motivated by Huang Xing’s patriotic spirit to contribute to the nation’s prosperity.

The Revolutionary Committee is a political party that inherits and promotes the patriotic and progressive spirits represented by figures like Sun Yat-sen and Huang Xing. Deputy Chairman Zhai Jun noted that Huang Xing spent the last years of his life in Shanghai, leaving behind the words, “As long as the country grows strong and prosperous, even if I die, I will still live on.” He emphasized that Huang Xing’s brilliant achievements, great spirit, and noble character will forever inspire future generations.
