(High-Quality Development Research Institute) Beijing Daxing Airport’s Fifth Anniversary of Aviation “New National Gate” Airport Economy “Daxing”
Beijing’s Daxing International Airport recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, marking a significant milestone for the surrounding Daxing International Airport Economic Zone. Over the past five years, this area has cultivated a robust industrial framework, focusing on life sciences as the leading sector, supported by aviation hubs and service guarantees as foundational industries, alongside emerging fields in next-generation information technology and smart equipment. This “1+2+2” industrial ecosystem has positioned the economic zone as an attractive destination for growing enterprises.
During a recent visit as part of the “High-Quality Development Research Tour” in Beijing, I explored the burgeoning services offered by the Daxing Free Trade Zone’s Innovation Service Center and the International Biomedical Park, which are currently under rapid development.
Daxing International Airport officially opened its operations on September 25, 2019. A year later, the Innovation Service Center of the Daxing Free Trade Zone was launched, designed to facilitate industrial incubation, financial innovation, innovation demonstrations, planning showcases, and comprehensive support services for park businesses.
To date, the Innovation Service Center houses several biomedical firms, including Beijing Cell Therapy Group and Beijing SynoGen BioTechnology, as well as financial institutions like the Bank of China and Agricultural Bank of China. This collaborative environment has effectively promoted industrial growth, improved the business climate, and attracted high-caliber talent.
The International Biomedical Park, located within the economic zone’s comprehensive bonded area, is also experiencing robust development. Xia Zhicheng, Deputy Manager of the Industrial Planning Center at New Airport City Company, emphasized the park’s mission to create a life sciences industrial cluster that extends through upstream and downstream supply chains. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of companies from research and development to commercialization, providing a nurturing environment for industrial progress.
One notable tenant, Beijing Karls Medical Instruments Co., specializes in the research and production of sterile implantable dental implants. They have developed a high-quality domestic implant system that boasts independent intellectual property rights, with an annual production capacity of one million sets. General Manager Su Hanqi shared that while their raw materials are primarily sourced from abroad, the company opted to officially settle in the biomedical park in 2024 to take advantage of the favorable policies offered within the comprehensive bonded area, having already commenced production as of September 15.
Xia further noted that the park has successfully welcomed other enterprises such as Karls Medical Instruments, Yisheng Bio, Quanxin Quan Yi, Hexiang Technology, and Yuma Bio, laying a strong foundation for the gradual formation of an industrial cluster within the Daxing economic zone.
