Chongqing’s regional GDP exceeded 2.3 trillion yuan in the first three quarters, a year-on-year increase of 6.0%

On October 22, the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Statistics released an overview of the region’s economic performance. According to the unified calculation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Chongqing achieved a GDP of 23,244.31 billion yuan in the first three quarters of 2024, reflecting a 6.0% year-on-year growth when adjusted for constant prices. Overall, the city’s economic operations have shown stability, with signs of progress and a strengthening trend toward improvement.

Breaking it down further, the primary industry contributed an added value of 1,486.83 billion yuan, marking a 2.9% increase; the secondary industry saw an added value of 8,991.33 billion yuan, up by 6.7%; while the tertiary industry reached an added value of 12,766.15 billion yuan, growing by 5.8%.

In the industrial sector, the added value of large-scale industries in Chongqing increased by 8.1% year-on-year, an improvement of 2.4 percentage points compared to the same period last year. Key sectors driving this growth include the automotive and chemical industries, with respective year-on-year increases of 25.9% and 16.8%. Meanwhile, the consumer goods and energy sectors remained stable, with growth rates of 6.0% and 8.2%, respectively. The electronics and equipment industries showed more modest growths of 2.9% and 1.6%.

Among the 391 industrial products manufactured in Chongqing during the first three quarters, 217 saw an increase in production compared to the previous year. Notably, the output of new energy vehicles soared to 594,300 units, a remarkable year-on-year increase of 130%, while the production of liquid crystal displays reached 288 million units, growing by 25.6%.

From January to August 2024, service sector enterprises above a designated size in Chongqing reported revenues of 4,205.44 billion yuan, an impressive year-on-year growth of 9.9%.

The consumption market in Chongqing has also shown stable development, with new consumption dynamics continuously strengthening. The total retail sales of consumer goods reached 11.7 trillion yuan in the first three quarters, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 3.8%. In terms of consumption types, retail sales of goods reached 9,777.66 billion yuan, growing by 2.6%, while dining revenues surged to 1,879.80 billion yuan, a 10.4% increase.

Overall, the economic performance of Chongqing in the first three quarters continues to show a restoring trend, with the advantages of new growth dynamics expanding. The city’s economic transformation and upgrading are steadily advancing, contributing to the accelerated construction of a modern industrial system and achieving new progress in high-quality development.
