The national autumn harvest has exceeded 60%, and autumn planting has begun

The latest agricultural update from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs reveals that the nationwide harvest of autumn crops has reached 64.3%, which is 1.1 percentage points ahead of last year’s pace. Simultaneously, the autumn planting season is underway.

Breaking it down by region, over 75% of the autumn crops have been harvested in the Huang-Huai-Hai region and the southwest, while the northwest region has surpassed 80%. In the northeast, the Yangtze River middle and lower reaches, and south China, more than half of the crops have been collected.

During field interviews at the forefront of the harvest, reporters discovered that this year’s grain-producing areas are exploring new methods, from farming infrastructure to superior seed varieties and practices.

In Jilin Province, significant efforts are being made to utilize salt-alkali land. Out of the over 6.7 million acres of such land in the province, more than 2 million acres have been rehabilitated. Currently, the rice harvesting on 300,000 acres of salt-alkali land in Da’an has reached its peak. This year, local farmers are using new organic silicon materials for bioremediation, turning more of this challenging land into fertile soil.

In Heilongjiang Province, Heihe City is focused on enhancing grain production capacity by promoting high-quality leading crop varieties. Harvesters in a local cooperative’s fields are working at full throttle, with this year’s crop of high-quality soybeans exceeding previous yields.

Currently, over 20% of the winter wheat has already been sown nationwide. In Henan Province, efforts continue to establish a 15 million-acre high-yield demonstration area for wheat. In Jiehe Road Village in Huai County, unmanned precision seeders equipped with BeiDou navigation systems are operating along pre-set paths to complete three processes—sowing, fertilizing, and compacting—in one go. This precise seeding method will ensure uniform plant growth and ease of management later on.

Since September, more than 10 million agricultural machinery units, including harvesters, tractors, and seeders, have been deployed for the autumn harvest and planting across the country.
