On October 15, the 2024 Shooting World Cup Final kicked off in New Delhi, India. On the first day of competitions, Chinese shooters Sheng Lihao, Huang Yuting, and Xie Yu made headlines by securing three gold medals for their team. Notably, Huang Yuting set a new world record in the women’s 10-meter air rifle final.

The women’s 10-meter air rifle event featured fierce competition, with Germany’s Anna Janssen setting a new qualification world record with a score of 636.9. Chinese athletes Huang Yuting and Han Jiayu advanced to the finals, placing third and fifth in the qualifiers. In the final, Huang Yuting delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 254.5 points to win the gold medal. This remarkable feat also broke the previous world record of 254 points set by Han Jiayu, who finished fifth. Indian shooter Maskar and France’s Miller took the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Huang Yuting, who recently turned 18, expressed her excitement after winning her first World Cup final gold in individual events. Reflecting on this significant year in her life, she said, “I’ve gained a lot and learned so much. It’s indeed a remarkable chapter as I turn 18.”

Sheng Lihao, a double champion from the Paris Olympics in both the 10-meter air rifle mixed team and men’s 10-meter air rifle events, faced a thrilling challenge in his finals. He took the lead starting from the fifth round, but his advantage was slim. Before the last shot, he was just 0.9 points ahead of Hungary’s Istvan Peni. In a nail-biting finish, Sheng scored 10.0 on his final shot, while Peni scored 10.8, allowing Sheng to clinch the gold by a narrow margin of 0.1 points with a total of 251.4 points. The bronze medal went to Czech shooter Jiri Prazak.

Xie Yu, the men’s 10-meter air pistol champion from the Paris Olympics, managed to make a comeback to seize the title on the same day. German shooter Robin Walter faltered in the final five shots, scoring below 10 points each time, allowing Xie Yu to capitalize on the situation. He scored a total of 244.6 points to claim the gold, leaving Walter 1.3 points behind in second place, while Italy’s Martini took home the bronze.

A total of four gold medals were awarded that day, with the women’s 10-meter air pistol champion being France’s Camille Yegyevski. On October 16, the finals will continue to determine the champions in men’s and women’s 50-meter rifle three positions, men’s 25-meter rapid fire pistol, and women’s 25-meter sports pistol events.
